Teaching Competence Over the past 10 years, I have gained significant teaching experience, first at the University of Ottawa and then at the University of Oxford. I am able and willing to provide research-led teaching in philosophy of action, philosophy of mind and post-Kantian European philosophy at the undergraduate and graduate level.
I am also able and willing to provide teaching in early modern philosophy, ethics, and practical ethics. I have taught topics from all these areas of philosophy on numerous occasions and in wide range of teaching contexts. (The full details can be found on my Curriculum Vitae.)
Teaching Philosophy Teaching is an aspect of my work I particularly enjoy – and which I take very seriously. I wish to equip my students with the relevant skills to critically engage with philosophical texts and ideas – and to rigorously reflect on the questions they raise. I believe that all of them can benefit from engaging with philosophical texts and ideas in that way. My teaching aims to cultivate a number of skills and values, which I think are crucial for this: curiosity, critical thinking and clarity of expression. With that in mind, I always encourage student participation: I want my classroom to be a space of engaged reflection where students actively reflect on the texts being studied and where they are confident to ask questions.
